This strap is absolutley brilliant. I've been suffering with ITBS in my right knee over the last 18 months, which I've eventually cured (well, I can run on it now) with the help of lots of physio exercises, slow build ups in mileage, swimming, pilates and foam rollering - phew! I found that as I got more aware of my legs during this time, it was my actual kneecap where the pain really was, and not the ITB. I got a PattStrap and used it under my knee (kind of pushing my kneecap up) and running is so much more comfortable. The PattStrap coupled with good exercises and foam rollering works for me!
