Wow!! I was a bit skeptical, but willing to try anything to get past my chronic ITBS. Having a BS in Health and PE and being a former High School Health/PE teacher and personal trainer, I have plenty of background in biomechanics and kinesiology. I understand why this works, but am still shocked that it took the pain away so immediately.
I would say this is a good preventative measure, or in my case something to keep it from escalating. I cannot imagine this would have the same effect if you are already experiencing an extreme case of ITBS.
I had a very bad case of ITBS last year and had to work back to just 5 mile runs over the course of 6 months. I never wanted to go through that again, and have been diligent at stretching and strengthening my IT band. A few runs of having to stop after 1 mile a few weeks ago after experiencing IT band pain sent me to this product and I have been amazed. I am still working my miles back up slowly to be safe, but have not experienced pain since using this product and hope to be back up to 10+ miles in a couple months.
TIP: as others have mentioned, the two materials that form the strap cause it to curl instead of laying flat when pulled tight. I have simply worn long compression shorts that come down far enough to cover it, and it holds it flat. The strap itself grips very well and does not slip.
